Loglan

The original logical language, created to test whether language structure influences thought.

About

Loglan (Logical Language) was created by sociologist James Cooke Brown in 1955 to test the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis — whether the structure of a language affects its speakers' cognition. It features a grammar based on predicate logic that is syntactically unambiguous, meaning every sentence has exactly one grammatical interpretation. Loglan's vocabulary was algorithmically derived from the eight most spoken languages. Disputes over the language's direction led to the creation of Lojban as a fork in 1987. Loglan remains active through The Loglan Institute.
