Syödä is the basic verb for eating. Common present forms include syön (I eat), syöt (you eat), syö (he/she eats). Finnish marks whether the object is eaten completely or partially: for a complete action you may see the accusative (Syön omenan = I eat the apple), while for an indefinite or partial amount the partitive is used (Syön omenaa = I am eating some apple). Syödä is also used metaphorically (e.g., 'se syö aikaa' = 'it eats time').
