Menni is the basic Hungarian verb for physical movement. The infinitive ends in -ni and it is commonly used after modal verbs (e.g., 'kell menni' = 'must go'). In the present tense the stem changes to megy- (e.g., 'megyek', 'mész', 'megy'), and many prefixes create related verbs (be-, el-, ki-, fel- etc.: bemenni, elmenni, kimenni). Stress in Hungarian is always on the first syllable (MEN-ni).
