Ayudar is a common transitive verb used to offer or provide assistance. It is often used with indirect object pronouns (me, te, le, nos, os, les): "¿Me ayudas?" and is commonly followed by a + infinitive when helping someone do something: "ayudar a preparar". For informal speech you might also hear "echar una mano"; "socorrer" is more about urgent help and "apoyar" often means to support emotionally or politically.
