what Nit de Cap d'Any is

Nit de Cap d'Any, or New Year's Eve, is a significant celebration in Catalonia, marked by unique traditions and festive spirit. The day begins with preparations for the evening's main event, which takes place in public squares across cities and towns. The most famous gathering occurs in Plaça de Catalunya in Barcelona, where thousands of people congregate to welcome the New Year.

The highlight of the evening is the consumption of twelve grapes, known as 'els dotze grans de raïm' (the twelve grapes of luck), in sync with the twelve chimes of the clock at midnight. This tradition is believed to bring good luck for the coming year. As the clock strikes twelve, the sky is illuminated with fireworks, adding to the festive atmosphere. After the midnight ritual, many people continue the celebrations with music, dancing, and socializing in bars and clubs throughout the night.
