what 개천절 (Gaecheonjeol) is

National Foundation Day, or Gaecheonjeol, is a public holiday in South Korea celebrated on October 3rd each year. It commemorates the legendary founding of Gojoseon, the first Korean kingdom, by Dangun in 2333 BCE. This event is deeply rooted in Korean mythology and history, marking the beginning of the Korean nation.

On the morning of the holiday the government holds a commemorative ceremony in Seoul, and on Mani Mountain on Ganghwa Island a rite is offered at Chamseongdan, the stone altar said to have been built by Dangun himself. Families hang the Taegukgi flag outside, children learn the myth of the bear who became a woman after a hundred days of mugwort and garlic, and museums run programmes about Gojoseon. The founding ideal, hongik ingan, 'benefit all humanity', is quoted in every speech of the day. Most people simply enjoy the day off, often as part of a long autumn weekend.

how scoring works
How you are ranked
1AccuracyEvery correct answer counts the same. Anything you leave unanswered counts as wrong.
2Time, only to break tiesTime is read only when two people have the same accuracy. It never beats a better score.
