what Revelion is

Revelion, 31 December, is the party of the Romanian year, spent at home with family, at a restaurant that sells a Revelion package with music until dawn, or on a city square with a free concert. The table is the same everywhere: salată de boeuf, the beef and vegetable salad bound with mayonnaise, piftie, pork in aspic, sarmale, cozonac, and șampanie ready for midnight. In the afternoon groups of children and young men go from house to house with Plugușorul, an old ploughing chant recited to bells, whips and a drum, wishing the household a rich harvest.

At midnight the numărătoarea inversă, the countdown, ends in artificii over every town, kisses and the double wish 'La mulți ani!' and 'Un An Nou fericit!'. On 1 January the children return with Sorcova, a twig decorated with paper flowers, tapping adults on the shoulder while reciting the blessing 'Sorcova, vesela', and are paid in coins and sweets; in Moldavia the Capra, a dancing goat mask, and bears in real bearskin join the parade. Both 1 and 2 January are public holidays.

how scoring works
How you are ranked
1AccuracyEvery correct answer counts the same. Anything you leave unanswered counts as wrong.
2Time, only to break tiesTime is read only when two people have the same accuracy. It never beats a better score.
For example
1100%3:41Marta
2100%4:02Joan — same score, slower
397%2:10Núria — fastest, still third

Same words in both. Beginner gets more help: matching and completing. Advanced listens and spells it out unaided. Pick it in practice; it locks when you take the scored run.

One scored run

Practise as often as you like, all year. The scored run happens once, while the competition is open, and cannot be retaken.
