分かる is commonly used to say you understand something or to indicate that something becomes clear. Grammatically it behaves like an intransitive verb: the thing understood is often marked with が (e.g., 意味が分かる). Polite form: 分かります; past casual: 分かった ("Got it"); negative: 分からない. For more formal or active understanding, use 理解する (を+理解する). In casual speech 分かる/分かるよ is also used to show empathy ("I get it").
