About Ido

Ido (meaning 'offspring' in Esperanto) was created in 1907 as a reformed version of Esperanto by a delegation of the International Association of Academies. Led by Louis de Beaufront and logician Louis Couturat, Ido addressed perceived issues in Esperanto: it made the accusative case optional, replaced diacritics with digraphs, adopted more internationally recognizable word roots, and reformed the pronoun system. While it caused a significant schism in the Esperanto movement, Ido maintains a small but dedicated speaker community today.
